1970년 광명사거리에 만들어진 시장이다 80년대 당시 주변 의류 상권과 가구점, 먹자골목, 금융기관, 병원 등 광명사거리 주변의 광명2~4동에 걸쳐 위치있다 광명시의 대부분의 의식주 생활을 할 수 있을 정도로 규모가 상당하며, 현재 국내 전통시장 중 7번째로 규모가 크다고 한다 광명시에서 관광산업으로 집중육성하는 곳 중 광며전통시장과 광명동굴이라고 생각하면 좋을듯하다 광명시에서 부지를 사서 전용주차장을 만들었으며, 광명동굴을 관광산업으로 적극적으로 알리고 있는 건 그 만큼 광명시 자부심이라는 뜻이다 광명시장은 오랜 역사 동안 대홍수, 화재사건, 모진 상황들이 있었지만 광명전통시장은 끝끝내 시장을 이전 규모 그대로 다시 살려내고 시장을 활성화시킨 광명시민들의 변함없는 사랑때문이다
