I visited Seolleung and Jeongneung Royal Tombs during the Lunar New Year holiday, and thanks to free admission, my steps were much easier. The information board in front of the ticket booth listed the viewing hours and that it was free during the holiday season. It varies depending on the season, but on this day it opened at 6 a.m., so I was able to leisurely look around until the sun set. It was a special day, walking through the quiet of the holiday and the time of Joseon, even in the middle of the city😃😃😃

Seonneung Royal Tombs, a World Cultural Heritage A park with Seolleung, where the 9th King Seongjong and Queen Jeonghyeon of the Joseon Dynasty are buried, and Jeongneung, where the 11th King Jungjong is buried. It is also called Samneung because it is a place with three royal tombs. It is a large green space that is hard to find in Gangnam, which is full of tall buildings. It is good to take a walk while breathing in the fresh air, and the large size is good for exercise. It takes about an hour just to walk along the road. Admission fee is 1,000 won. Residents pay 500 won. Free during Lunar New Year holidays. There is a dedicated parking lot at the entrance. 400 won for 5 minutes.

Seonjeongneung Royal Tomb is densely preserved as a natural forest, so it has the character of a neighborhood park and is used as a resting place for residents and office workers in the Gangnam area, which lacks green space. Seonjeongneung contains the royal tomb of King Seongjong, the tomb of Queen Jeonghyeon, King Seongjong's second wife, and Jeongneung, the tomb of King Jungjong. Closer to the entrance is Seolleung, and King Seongjong's tomb and Queen Jeonghyeon's tomb are both called Seolleung. Since they are a married couple, they use the same tomb name, but they each follow the ‘Dongwon Igang’ style of being built like a single tomb on a different hill. This Seolleung Royal Tomb has stairs built on both sides of the tomb so that you can climb up to the burial mound and observe the stone sculptures. Seonjeongneung Royal Tomb is also a place with a sad history, having suffered the humiliation of having the royal tombs dug up and the palace burned by the Japanese during the Japanese invasions of Korea.

Good for a walk, designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO 🚶♂️🚶♀️ A well-maintained park 🌳 Although it is visited by quite a few foreigners, it is mainly a place where you can enjoy a quiet walk as long as you avoid lunch hours on weekdays 💚

Jeongneung (靖陵) is a royal tomb included within Seonjeongneung Royal Tomb and is the tomb of King Jungjong, the 11th king of the Joseon Dynasty. Seolleung (宣陵) is the royal tomb of King Seongjong, the 9th king of the Joseon Dynasty, and Queen Jeonghyeon, and is located within Seonjeongneung Royal Tombs in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. It is registered as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site ‘Joseon Royal Tombs’ and is located in the middle of the city, making it great for a walk. Jeongneung was close to the entrance, so I visited it first and then went to see Seolleung. Although we could not see King Jungjong's tomb up close, we were able to see the tombs of King Seongjong and Queen Jeonghyeon up close. Because it was winter, the flowers had disappeared, but it was nice to see tall green pine trees. It felt like a guardian deity guarding the tomb. I enjoyed the sightseeing. I recommend it.

General admission is 1,000 won. I think it would take about an hour to look around the whole thing slowly. The trail is wide and clean, and you have to cross hills in the middle, so it feels like you're getting a decent amount of exercise. There is a good explanation of Seonjeongneung Royal Tombs and there is even a history and culture museum, making it a useful place for children and foreign visitors. It is a meaningful space where you can experience cultural heritage while taking a walk in the forest in the city.

World Cultural Heritage Seonjeongneung Royal Tomb of King Seongjong of the Joseon Dynasty and Queen Jeonghyeon Queen Jungjong Large trees that are difficult to see in the city center, a forest path maintained between them, and an exhibition hall. There are many strange birds, and when you come in, do you feel like your nose is refreshed? Although the royal tomb is a royal tomb, the large forest surrounding it is great for a walk.

I spent the last winter walking around Seonjeongneung, a huge forest island located in the middle of a complex city where land prices are the most expensive in Seoul. Seonjeongneung provides a comfortable resting place for spring and fall picnickers, office workers from the Samseong-dong area on a walk, and visitors, and is also a valuable place that teaches us about history. This place is home to Seolleung, where King Seongjong and his second wife, Queen Jeonghyeon, are enshrined, and Jeongneung, where King Seongjong's son, Jungjong, is enshrined. It is called Seonleung, but it is commonly referred to as Seolleung.
