It was clear that Yongsan Family Park was shedding the weight of winter and quietly stretching out. The Korean flags on the hill, which is the heart of the park, flutter lightly today in the gentle spring breeze. In the still colorless background of the park, the red and blue colors of Taegeuk on a white background are vivid and intense. The lawn preparing for spring still looks like a barren field from afar, but just by the feel of the soil becoming soft as the frozen ground thaws, you can tell that green buds are getting ready to pop out. In February, Yongsan Family Park seems to be empty and will soon be filled. The hazy afternoon sunlight falling on a quiet park fills it with peace.

On a rainy weekend, Yongsan Family Park is busy with families with children despite the rain. Pergolas throughout the park are on fire. At the outdoor wedding hall, the bride, groom and their families are waiting for their guests despite the inclement weather. Although it is a charming and stylish park on a rainy day, it would have been better for everyone if it had been a clear day. It was a Japanese military garrison until liberation during the Japanese colonial period, before that it was also a Qing Dynasty military garrison, and after the Korean War, the land was acquired in 1992 and used as a U.S. military garrison, and was turned into a park, which is what it is today. History seems to prove that this area of ​​Yongsan was, by all accounts, a strategic location. Here, the water grass is still green and has not been removed, so the charm of the lake is still alive. Since autumn is short, it will soon wither and become dreary, but the season will end.

In the place where the brilliant colors were gone, silence and blankness took over. It is midday in a winter park that feels like a plain oriental painting instead of a flashy one. The low winter sun casts long shadows even in the middle of the day. As you walk along the path around the pond and the long shadows of trees on the empty lawn square, you feel your mind calming down. The pond is thinly frozen, giving the winter sky a somewhat dull texture. The scattered yellow reed colonies in the surrounding area are like tokens of the cycle of the seasons. As I walked, I could clearly see Namsan Tower in the distance beyond the US military return site. With my most honest face, I face the serenity of emptiness at the park in Jeongjeong-dong, where I take a breather for spring.

First visit to Yongsan Family Park. The scenery is nice, with a wide lawn, pond, rose garden, and various statues. The road is well-maintained for a walk. It's pretty in itself, but it's connected to the National Museum of Korea past Taegeukgi Park on the hill and Mir Falls, so it's good to stop by the museum and then take a walk.

When I visited after about 15 days, the forest around the pond and squares 1 and 2 had a deeper feel of late fall. The surrounding grass and trees are fading and withering, but the water surface of the pond is darker than the sky, creating another beauty that is clear and cool. The entrance to the outdoor wedding hall was always decorated with pretty flowers, but they were all removed, and the trees whose leaves fall quickly were already bare. There is a colony of ginkgo trees on the eastern slope of Taegeukgi Park, and underneath them, a lot of yellow ginkgo leaves are spilling out, making it look like a golden carpet even when viewed from afar. The first sub-zero temperatures are expected in Seoul early next week, so I'm curious what [Yongsan Family Park] will be like then.

The leaves of the cherry trees that bloom in the spring at Yongsan Family Park turn red, and the silver grass, where it came from, sways in the wind. Roses are still blooming today in the rose garden next to the handmade roses. Workers harvesting persimmons from persimmon trees and vegetables in the garden wait for their owners to harvest them, and young birds run around in mushroom sculptures. It's always a good place to walk. I take a look past Taegeukgi Park and around the pond a couple of times. Sit in the pavilion and relax with friends. Although it is a weekday, the parking lot is small and there are no empty seats. Just looking at the wedding photo shoot of a young newlywed couple brings a smile to my face. Yongsan Family Park is becoming more mature and popular as time passes. I miss the apple blossoms next spring.

It seems like a better time to take pictures than midday. The lawn between the pond and the mooring is often used as an outdoor wedding venue, and today, couples about to get married are taking pictures and walking around the lawn, making their hands and feet cringe as they act like chickens. The leaves of the reeds around the lake have turned yellow, and the leaves of the surrounding trees are red and red in their fall colors. Tonight is the last night of October.
