It is a port that connects Incheon to the rest of the country and was the site of a camp defending Yanghwanaru. Now only traces of the old camp remain. On the Catholic side, the Jeoldusan Martyrs' Shrine and Cathedral are built, while on the Protestant side, the Christian Centennial Memorial Hall and Foreign Missionary Cemetery have been built. Even pressing the shutter in this place, which should be solemn, can feel the weight of caution.

I like it

It is close to Hapjeong Station and right next to Jeoldusan Sanctuary. It was easy to find, but the train roar was so loud that I felt sad. The cemetery is smaller than expected and I couldn't visit it much, but I think it is a place with great historical preservation value. At the time those people were buried, this place must have been on the outskirts of Seoul... As time passed, the appearance of being surrounded by buildings seemed a bit strange. If you are a Christian, I recommend you to visit at least once.

Yanghwajin has been a strategic point of national defense since ancient times, protecting the city from strong winds. On one side of the park, the site of an old military camp demarcated by polestones silently testifies that this was not just a scenic ferry site, but a tense fortress that defended the Han River waterway with the fate of the country at stake. When you enter the nearby 'Yanghwajin Foreign Missionary Cemetery', you come face to face with the passionate sincerity that strangers gave for a country for which even the name Joseon was unfamiliar. During the turbulent times of modern Joseon, they came with the gospel, medicine and education, and shared the suffering of this land. They are buried here. Now they are silent, but the legacy they left behind is still alive and moving powerfully in all walks of life.
