Area

Dongmyeong-dong, Dong-gu

Behind the ACC, a lane of old villas filled with roastery cafes and bars — Gwangju's Hongdae, nicknamed 'Dongridan-gil.' Coffee by day, bars by night. Each autumn it hosts the 'Dongmyeong Coffee Walk' festival.

“When the ACC opened, the back lanes woke up all at once.”

Dongmyeong-dong was old Gwangju's wealthy quarter. When the ACC opened in 2015, the villas behind it were converted into roastery cafes, dessert shops, and bars, earning the nickname 'Dongridan-gil.' One cafe owner says, “We didn't copy Seoul's Seongsu — we kept the old houses' bones, and that's the difference.” Distinctive roastery coffee by day shifts to lane bars by evening. Busiest during the autumn 'Dongmyeong Coffee Walk.'
