This is an old snack bar by Chungjang-ro's post-office meeting point. Tteokbokki simmers on the pan with fritters and boiled eggs added in.
“This tteokbokki tastes like arriving before your meeting time and waiting.”
This is a snack bar that has held the same spot by the Chungjang-ro post office through changing generations. The owner still uses her mother's wide iron pan, loosening gochujang sauce at 10 a.m. for the first batch. As she says, “This tteokbokki tastes like arriving before your meeting time and waiting,” guests often finish a plate while waiting for someone. The rice cakes mix 70 percent wheat and 30 percent rice for texture, and seaweed-roll and squid fritters enter during the final two minutes to catch the sauce. She adds, “It has to reduce a little to taste like after school.” Once, a middle-aged guest came with his daughter, found the seat he used as a high-schooler, and the owner quietly added one extra egg.

What this place protects
Sweet-spicy sauce reduced a little on the pan. Fritters are timed for sauce absorption more than crunch.

Behind the Signature
Instant tteokbokki cooks fast, but flavor comes from waiting. Fritters go in when sauce starts clinging to the rice cakes, before they turn soggy.
