Gwangjucheon flows down from Mudeungsan and cuts through the city center, with long walking and cycling paths on both banks. A longtime walker says, “The main road is the city's face; the stream is its back.” Cherry blossoms and rape flowers take turns in spring, and on summer evenings the cool space under the bridges draws neighbors. Herons and ducks settle at the water's edge while children dip their feet at the stepping stones. He suggests visitors “shop at Yangdong or Nam-Gwangju market, then slip down to the stream to feel Gwangju's pace.” The water is loudest the day after rain, and some regulars come out just to hear it.
Practical
It hugs the markets (Yangdong, Nam-Gwangju), so pair shopping with a walk. Bike-share stations sit along the route.
