Mudeungsan is the guardian mountain visible from anywhere in Gwangju. Its name, “Mudeung” (無等), is read as “without rank,” beyond compare. From the Jeungsimsa trailhead to Jungmeori-jae is the most popular course — three or four hours round-trip and the city opens up beneath you. The Seoseokdae and Ipseokdae columns near the top are volcanic rock pillars, designated natural monuments. A local hiking guide advises, “Mudeungsan isn't rough — beginners can do it — but the weather turns fast, so bring water and a layer.” Famous for spring royal azaleas and autumn silver grass.

How to Order
- 1Jeungsimsa trailhead to Jungmeori-jae is the beginner course.

Buses reach the Jeungsimsa trailhead from downtown. Summit (Seoseokdae) access may need seasonal reservation.
