“Children should learn animals' rest times before their names.”

This is a zookeeper who runs education programs at Uchi Park. As a child he saw an elephant here for the first time and decided on the job; now he guides elementary-school groups. “Children should learn animals' rest times before their names,” he says, teaching them to respect shade and quiet as much as feeding schedules. In the morning he checks 14 water containers; in the afternoon he records temperature and behavior in a log. He carries an old whistle and a small sticker book to slow excited children down. He adds, “A zoo is not a place to look close; it is a place to look long.” Once, a child shushed friends so they would not wake a sleeping animal, and the keeper awarded the best-visitor sticker of the day.

Philosophy

What this place protects

Tune the family outing to animal rhythm. Rest time and shade deserve as much respect as feeding time.

Behind the Signature

The signature is not trying to conquer zoo and rides at once. Split it by children's energy: zoo in the morning, rides later.
